Komitadzhi, from the Turkish komitacı (“committee member”), refers to members of irregular rebel bands (cheta) who fought for the liberation of Balkan territories from Ottoman rule across the 19th–20th centuries. Most notably used in describing members of the Bulgarian and Macedonian revolutionary committees and their continued activities after Ottoman collapse.
